Quarry Digitization

We our approached by a quarry management company that wanted to digitize their processes. All sales were recorded on paper, this led to limited communication and collaboration, lack of visibility and high cost to perform any analytics to name a few of the problems. We started the engagement by interviewing all staff members. Interviews helped us understand the current process. After compiling the interview scripts, we created a proposal and presented to the team. The proposal included a mobile app used by field operative to confirm sales, web app used by office staff to enter new sales, mobile app used by clients to view invoices and receipts and web app used by management for descriptive analytics. The web app supported live updates, when a new sale item is created a notification is send to the field operative and client. In addition, using role based permissioning we ensured information from a particular quarry is only visible to users within that quarry. After our proposal was accepted we set out by creating low fidelity prototype and sharing these with the end users. We set out weekly deliverables for the next 12 weeks. After the 12 weeks were over we trialed the system in production we the paper system side by side. As expected we found a few items that needed fixing but overall the transition was smooth. We believe the small number of defects and smooth transition was principally due to the client being heavily engaged during the development. The project was delivered on time and on budget. Over 500,000 sales have been booked using the system and still operation in 5 sites.
